A Sea of Pegs

“As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same” – Marianne Williamson

I have a mask that festers.

Set aside for daily wear.

Necessary to hide my blemishes.

To make this square fit into a sea of pegs.

It suffocates me.

My lungs are ready to burst.

I snatch it off and gasp for air!

Terrified I look at the figures directly across from me.

Cracks start forming along their faces.

Suddenly, they shatter into razor sharp pieces.

Gone are the pegs.

A triangle and a trapezoid now cautiously stare in my direction.

We introduce ourselves.

For real this time.

Laughter ensues!

I can’t help but muse…

Am I truly in a sea of pegs?
